Hello Friends, If you are starting up blogging on any topic this is the first question in your mind what platform to choose. I am going to talk about the pros and cons of the blogger platform.
If you are a new blogger and want to get started with minimal setup and cost, then Blogger is the best platform for you as a beginner, and the reasons are:
- It's free, just sign up set up your theme, and go.
- No custom domain and hosting are required. (Whilst you can add the custom domain to Blogger like I have done. forcetrails.com)
- It is easy to use.
- Plenty of free/paid blogger templates/themes are available out there on the Internet.
- Content on the new Blog hosted on Blogger gets ranked faster than WordPress in the Google search engine.
- You don't have to have a custom domain to place AdSense ads on your blog. (Although it is better to have a custom domain in my opinion).
- You can migrate to WordPress whenever you think you are ready and you have a budget.
The biggest reason to use Blogger in my opinion.
Let me tell you a story, I have a friend who started blogging about cars at carbhp.com, after a year he realized that for some reason the blog is not getting that much traction and he might not get any earnings out of it. He stopped working on that.
Now, he wanted to keep the blog running with the existing content. but not to add new content very frequently. And guess what? He has to pay the hosting and domain money to just keep it alive.
So this is the biggest reason, if you are not sure that things are not gonna work out, you can start small with the Blogger without investing a single penny.
When you think you are getting a good earning and the Blogger Platform is not very flexible as you want then you can migrate to WordPress. So the moral of the story is to go with small steps and upgrade your equipment/resources slowly.
This is the same process I followed when I started blogging here at ForceTrails.com. Right now I don't feel there is much need to migrate to WordPress, so sticking with the Blogger Platform.
Cons Of the Blogger Platform
- No automated backup option is available.
- Does not have a good set of plugins.
- Ownership is not yours as it is owned by Google, it can be shut down by Google at any time.
- There is limited support available for Blogger.
- Updates to Blogger are not very frequent.
- Feedburner will no longer send automated emails 😢, see Upcoming changes to FeedBurner.
- Migrating your site from Blogger to WordPress is a time-consuming and tedious job.
So that it guys, let me know your thoughts on this.
